1947 - Jackie Robinson goes hitless in his Major League debut.
1954 - The Orioles play their first game in Baltimore; defeat the White Sox 3-1.
1956 - NBA player Michael Cooper was born.
1958 - The first Major League baseball game is played in California; San Francisco Giants defeat the Los Angeles Dodgers 8-0.
1965 - The NFL changes the color of their penalty flags from white to bright yellow.
1968 - The Houston Astros defeat the New York Mets 1-0 in 24 innings.
1991 - The Sacramento Kings set an NBA record by losing their 35th consecutive game on the road.
1997 - Major League Baseball honors Jackie Robinson by retiring his #42 jersey for all teams.
