1939 - Ted Williams hits his first career homerun.
1950 - The first major league day game is complete under lights; Phillies 6 Braves 5
1952 - Reliever Hoyt Wilhelm wins his first relief game and hits his only career homerun.
1954 - Hank Aaron hits his first career homerun.
1958 - Gil Hodges hits his 300th career homerun and Pee Wee Reese plays in his 2,000th career game.
1962 - The New York Mets win their first game ever after starting the season 0-9.
1964 - Houston Colt 45's pitcher Ken Johnson becomes the first pitcher to lose a 9-inning no-hitter, Reds win 1-0.
1978 - Joe Morgan's streak of 91 consecutive errorless games at second base ends.
1989 - Kareem Adbul-Jabbar plays his last game as a Laker.
1995 - Sportscaster Howard Cosell dies at age 77.
