1900 - The second modern Olympics open in Paris and last 5 months.
1922 - Babe Ruth returns to baseball after being suspended for the first six weeks of the season for playing in a barnstorming exhibition game after playing in the 1921 World Series. There was a rule at the time which prevented players from playing in exhibition games after playing in the World Series to prevent them from "restaging" the World Series and undermining its value.
1930 - The University of California dedicates $1,500 to research a cure for athlete's foot.
1941 - Chicago White Sox outfielder Taft Wright sets an American League record for consecutive games with an RBI with 13.
1948 - The Cleveland Indians tie an American League record by drawing 18 walks against the Boston Red Sox.
1959 - The Yankees are in last place for the first time since May 25th, 1940.
1960 - Baseball game in Milwaukee is postponed due to dense fog.
1983 - Steve Carlton passes Walter Johnson for 2nd all-time in strikeouts (He is currently 4th).
1984 - Roger Clemens wins his first career game.
1985 - A game between Cleveland and Milwaukee is rained out ending a record string of 458 consecutive Major League games without a rain-out.
1991 - Jeff Reardon records his 300th career save.
1995 - Minnesota Twins rookie Marty Cordova sets a rookie record by hitting a home run in 5 consecutive games.
2000 - NBA player Malik Sealy dies in a car accident at the age of 30.
