1904 - New York Yankee's pitcher Jack Chesbro's streak of 30 consecutive complete games ends.
1920 - Hall of Fame NBA coach Red Holzman was born.
1929 - St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Grover Cleveland Alexander wins his 373rd and final career game.
1933 - Former Cleveland Indians outfielder Rocky Colavito was born.
1934 - Babe Ruth announces that this will be his final season as a full time player.
1944 - Boston Braves pitcher Red Barrett throws on 58 pitches in a 2-0 complete game shutout of the Cincinnati Reds.
1971 - Minnesota Twins first baseman Harmon Killebrew becomes the 10th player to hit 500 career home runs.
1971 - The Society for American Baseball Research is founded.
1995 - Leading 2-1 in the 9th inning, the Los Angeles Dodgers are forced to forfeit the game to the Cardinals after their fans become too unruly.
2001 - Hall of Fame shortstop and manager Lou Boudreau dies at the age of 84.
